Side by side testing today. 130 TTSX vs 133 Shock Hammer. I tried the Barnes TTSX over 55 of H4350 and 55 of Staball 6.5. Both shoot right at 1 inch H 4350 was a MV of 3114 and Staball was at 3074. Then my wife sites down to a rifle she had never shot before and shoots a group we covered with a...
As normal Farleg is spot on. What works well for me won't work for someone else in their setting. I don't even know where to go to find a 600 yard range, or even 400 yards. My shots are 200 yards or under. And a few that were damn near bayonet range. Yes I once had to slowly move my barrel to...
Got my 125 HHT bullets yesterday and found it was kind of fun putting on the tips. I was wondering if these can be pushed faster than the normal HH bullets? I have a load for my wife's 6.5CM with the 124 HH and 40 of Varget. Should I start there and inch my way up? Or is this not the right...
Speaking as one who has spent many an hour in a tree. You get a sudden gust of wind and you start talking to god real quick. In my state we have more Hunters die from falls than being shot. Thankfully we went to rifles about 10-15 years ago and Hunter shooting went way down. 42 years of working...
I don't like to go that far on vacation. Maybe we forgot what hunting is. Getting close to game is the hard part. A Whitetail at 25 yards and one at 300 are two very different animals. You need to use Hunting Skill, not just shooting skill.
Don't let an engineer reload. They think to much. Their minds don't work like a normal person. They wind up doing everything right but put they bullet in the case going the wrong way.
I just buy another Savage Axis. I have one in almost every caliber they come in. I tinker with them and get them to shoot very well. I found it doesn't take long with Hammers to find a good shooting load. Once in a while I have to try a couple of different powders but I always hit on a winner...
Go light and go fast. We hunt Whitetails with an 85 HH in a 6.5 CM 3400+ fps and it kills like lighting. Massive energy transfer takes place inside that animal. Organs you didn't hit still get blown apart.
Everyone shoots the 85 HH with Varget if that helps, 43.5 - 44 gr Regular cci 200 primers and Starline brass. PM me, I can point out some places to find supplies.
I just learned to not try to make the 6.5CM into a 300 WM. I go lighter and faster. Those 85 HH are deadly on our Whitetails. Just a touch faster than the 243. It's where you hit them. Not what you hit them with.
