95HHT Smashes Hog

@Grizz19 sent me this picture. His dad shot a hog the other day with the 95HHT out of his .257 Roberts going mid 3200 fps. Only went 50 yards. 200+ pound pig. It was quartering to him and destroyed both lungs and exited out the guts. Roughly 100 yard shot.

The ole man did alright!
“A little bitty caliber sized shank couldn’t possible do that much damage, must of been one of them mushrooming bullets…” 😆
Gday grizz 🤣🤣
& 2 make it even better its out of the Bob
I love that chambering I’ll have to see if I still have videos of it taking down some red deer in New Zealand

Yes it’s a great chambering & tell the old boy to keep it up as he is doing our generation proud
Cheers

Showing my age a bit here & I haven’t even got to the super8 & projector 😱or lack of technology more to the point

I’ll see what I can dig up in these old tapes as I’d lost a lot from my divorce as they must have meant a lot more to her to take them 🤔guess she did love all the shooting fishing I did 🤣

Wish your old man a happy birthday from down under & may he keep hitting them with the Bob for many years to come

Cheers

Yassir, I think Grizz just being facetious. :ROFLMAO:

That brings up a good point about the petal rpms. @kneedeep you able to observe this any in your gel tests? Or a more super duper slow camera required? @AP2020 what about you? I know you got some fancy stuff.
Rpms of petals or petals that come off of higher rpm pills?

I’ve not messed with different twist rates of the same pill in gel. Where gel excels is being able to recover most, if not all of the petals and seeing how and where the nose/petals come apart.

You can distinctly tell if a pill has two stage shedding, banana peel shedding, instant shedding or a combination of the above. You can also see if the copper is stretched (thinned out) before it comes apart. I believe the “ballooning” (stretched/thinned out) of the copper causes more pressure to build and causes a better pop. But there can be too much of a good thing as added stretch and building of pressure as a pill comes apart causes the shank to slow. This is where I believe KE comes into play and with the right information about the amount of KE needed to shed the nose of a given design, Brian could have a better starting point when designing and balancing a new pill.

A nose shedding all at one time (example the shock hammer design) with a large hp causes the shaped charge to go wide and the shank to slow significantly. Still enough speed to exit most animals.

Overall I like the pills with two stage shedding as it keeps the shank speed high, with some thinner (stretched) petals that are flat and more square shaped. I believe these petals travel the furthest and cut better than the peeled petals. More measurements will be needed to confirm over time as sample sizes are small now. The first stage petals generally have some peeling at the nose.

That’s all for now

Hammers made bullet mushrooms icky.
my buddy was an a-frame/partition guy his whole career and he was an instant convert when he helped me field dress my deer. It looked like this hog, borderline disgusting. he thought the petals/shank idea was cute until he saw it. His lungs won't let him hunt anymore but he's still insistent he'd never help someone use anything else.
