125HHT 6.5 PRC Pressure Ladder Results

Hey Hammerheads,
Just wanted to post up some preliminary pressure ladder results for the 125HHT in the 6.5 PRC. I know this is a popular caliber here, and I don’t know that I’ve seen these powders talked about for it. I will post pictures of each group below the powder charge & test results. On the MagPro grouping, it was likely me causing most of the horizontal shift. I get a little flinchy when doing pressure ladders, just waiting for a kaboom! 😂

Load data:
Peterson unfired brass
CCI200 primer
2.954” COAL
1/4 crimp

Accurate MagPro:
61.9 - 3152
62.9 - 3195
63.9 - 3204
64.9 - 3264

Hodgdon H4831SC:
55.9 - 3003
56.9 - 3070
57.9 - 3124
58.9 -3181

No notable pressure signs on any load. Left 4 are 4831SC, right 4 are MagPro

¡Muy impressivo!
Would you mind popping the primer on far right MagPro and see if there are any signs of pressure on it?
What were case fills like?

Edit to correct powder. I really need to wear the cheaters when I post!

I will be popping primers later today to take measurements. Case fills were very good all across the board, and at the high end of the ladders, I’d say both were probably close to 95% or so. Very little powder rattle on top loads. It does seem that I could bump charges up another .5 to 1 gr before pressure signs, but perhaps I’ll know better when I can measure primer pockets

Looks like the 125HHT is a fit for your gun. Even with various charge weights and different powders it's wanting to print pretty good out the gate. I bet a million Hammers that vertical string of the H4831C is all you, Brah!

I would stay at the 63-64gr of the Magpro and take the 63gr if it prints same or better than the 64. Factoring in temp sensitivity here. On the other hand, I would push the 4831SC to 60-61. Those primers look too healthy so far. :ROFLMAO:

"No notable pressure signs on any load..." Although there are no notable over pressure signs, there are still notable comparisons here. For instance, look at the far left and then the far right primer. There is quite more ledge to the side of the primer on the left, and very little to the primer on the right. Simply put, your Magpros are flatter.

The really good thing is you already have identified two viable powders in case one goes OOS like they seem to do!

Moving forward, I would test Magpro 63 and 64gr charge weights in 5 shot groups for accuracy and ES/SD. Then see what happens with 60-61gr single round tests of 4831SC.

I know the charts are subjective and sometimes inaccurate, but Hodgdons powder chart shows 4831 right next to N560. Going up at least two grains on the 4831. Not sure if I’ll push the MagPro any more or not.

We tried 4831 (not SC) and it was pretty anemic. Retumbo was also way to slow a burn rate. I’ll have to see if I can find n560 to see if the juice is worth the squeeze. Funny thing…..I don’t even own a 6.5 prc…..two of my friends have them and we are working loads for them. 😂

@jrebel, I’m at 3181 fps with the 4831SC. Just punched out primers and measured pockets. No pocket growth at all. 1 more grain should put me over 3200, and 2 grains should put me at least mid-3200.

@Steve Davis ,
Can you clarify this? I thought you meant that 3250 was top vel for the PRC. Did you mean that you were able to gain more speed over that? IMG_2620.jpeg
