    375 H&H bullet selection

Range day after getting barrel cut back to 24” and added AB Raptor 8 “moderator”. 1. 220 SH @71.0 gr Tac, 2918 fps avg, 1MOA 5 shot group. Room to spare in case and no pressure sign 2. 270 SH @74 gr Varget, 2761 fps avg, 1.3 MOA 5 shot group (threw one left). Don’t think losing 1.5” of barrel...

Lee Factory Crimp Dies on Sale at Midway

@ButterBean Will a Lee FCD for rifle cartridge that is .020” longer than one not offered by Lee work, or need to be modified? In my case, I’m shooting a 6XC (max case length 2.900”) with Lee offering a 6CM (max case length 2.920”).

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

Looks like Cerrosafe not needed. After a month of silence, gunsmith has reappeared and will make things “right”.

Still looking for a .375 HHT

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

Cerrosafe on its way. If nothing else, I’ll have proof of messed up chamber after getting 28 Nosler punched

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

Using a Sinclair chamber length gauge, I measured chamber length to be 2.577” SAAMI max cartridge lengths: 7 WBY - 2.549” 7 STW - 2.850” I don’t think wrong reamer was used; rather went .028” too far with the 7 Wby reamer. Visual inspection of the chamber looks like a Weatherby shoulder. 28...

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

I just noticed that the SAAMI drawing for 7 STW has .003” more headspace at belt than the 7 Wby… 7 STW: .220-.227” 7 WBY: .220-.224”

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

Well, they offer a 300 RUM barrel (11” twist), so I reckon so

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

PBB barrel, 8 twist chambered by the “gunsmith”, marked 7mm Weatherby. Don’t care for the Blaser option in twist rates. It would be interesting to try to chamber STW.

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

When I say “excessive”…I mean really excessive. Bolt would close on 7 layers of painters tape on virgin cartridge base. To boot, this “new” barrel has pitting in the chamber. “Gunsmith” has ghosted; I’m awaiting credit card decision on refund. I’d rather just send it back for a properly...

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

28N would be acceptable to me...but I thought the belt from 7mm Weatherby would eliminate a non-belted cartridge. Edit: I looked up the 28 Nosler case. Based on 300 RUM, it does have a wider body than the 375 H&H based cartridges. I will look into pursuing 28 Nosler over the 7mm STW. Thanks...

    Re-chambering question in 7mm

Need some gunsmithing expertise. I have a 7mm Weatherby barrel that has excessive headspace (closes on field gauge) on a barrel that cannot be "setback" (aftermarket Blaser R8 barrel). Can a 7mm Weatherby be re-chambered to 7mm STW (or any other cartridge for that matter)? Thanks, Björn

What’s the right pill for Nilgai out of a 300 Magnum?

Nilgai aren't that tough. They are a thin skinned antelope at the end of the day. Shot placement is different than native NA game as you mentioned. A friend took one with 115 DTAC in one shot. Placement is key as well as the bullet construction. I'd go with the 137HH (which is what I'm shooting...

    375 H&H bullet selection

Back from the range again. 1. Ran pressure ladder with 220 SH and Varget (LabRadar acting up; only know 77 gr = 3015 fps). No pressure indications at 79 grains. Worthy of looking at further. 2. Quick pressure check launching 270 SH with the Norma brass (versus Hornady originally). No issues at...

    375 H&H bullet selection

That was my first bullet to try (post #13). Bullet seemed a bit long for my magazine. I may revisit, but with the 3.635 COAL length I had to single feed (at that length, the ogive was right at case neck).
