Steve, I was thinking the same as well. My next outing with this one will be with RL16, and RL17. I actually have 2, .280 remington rifles, one with 8 twist, and 26 in barrel. The Montana, is 24 in, 9 twist. And my 7mag, (Rem), is 26 in, 9 twist. I'm trying to get all three to shoot this bullet.😇

Guys, yet another update on my 118hht quest, today I took the Montana 1999 out, loaded with 56.1, and 56.6 H4350, remington brass, 210gmm, seated to top ring, And FCD applied. First off, velocity was 3250, and 3275 respectively. Groups were good, albeit if shooting 3 shot group, #3 is away, and...

I'm told that Norma makes Nosler. 280 brass.

Can't wait to get my hands on some Peterson brass when it becomes available. I'm a Lapua snob in every thing I have, but they don't make it. People don't know what a tremendous difference great brass makes in load development. And there are some that use pick up brass, and can't figure it out...

Thank you, and yes, that will be my next on agenda for sure. Even the remington brass has more weight, but we all know it's soft. I have HAD to shoot it on occasion, years ago. But didn't have neck and pocket issues like this. It really had me questioning my own loading techniques. I was sure...

A little update, but no rangetime yet. Weather has been .....not cooperative. But, I received my new brass for the. 280. It is Norma brass. What I wanted to pass on is the weight of the Norma brass is 21 grains heavier then the Hornady brass. And is about 2 grains more the remington brass. That...

I really like Peterson brass. Great pockets, and necks. Resizes well, and is tough.

That's good to know. So, it's a powder choice that I'm dealing with. Thanks for the feedback. And a brass issue for sure. This H brass is super soft.

Yeah Steve, I was just literally reading that they are temporarily out of stock. Which means it's a seasonal run issue. At this point I'm thinking I may just work with Lapua 30.06 brass, and resize. Neck will be short. I'll just have to keep an eye on carbon ring, and keep chamber really clean...

Does Peterson sell 280 rem brass? I use it in my 6br, 6.5cm, and 7mag. Very impressed.

I have some Ramshot Hunter powder, and RL19 as well. I also have 7828ssc, and Retumbo. I too, like a full case, yielding desired velocity.

I bought some Hornady brass. Pockets are soft, neck tension sucks. The only premium maker is Norma. You can make it 30.06 brass, BUT....it will be .036 short, because 30.06 is 2.494 max. The .280 is 2.540 max. That leaves alot of space for carbon to build. I may go that road anyway. Lapua...

Steve, I'm beginning to think I have a brass problem . I have some Good brass coming. This brass isn't the best. I bought it new, but it's soft as butter.

You are right. I now have a constant speed , as I recently acquired a XeroC1 Garmin. So....I see all this info that I have been blind to. I have a hard time discarding a load that drives nails, but has high ES, and SD. I need to put my blinders back on.🤣🤣🙈🙈

Yup. That's the only thing I can think of. It limits me somewhat, and with a 26 in barrel, it should be a screamer, but the 8 twist slows me up .

Yeah, I'm thinking 16, or 17 will get me there too. I don't think I'll see it in my 8 twist, but probably will in the new 9 twist. Can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want a 8 twist in 7mm. I didn't think it was going to be such an obstacle. Now I do! As I mentioned earlier...

It's funny you say that, as it seems that they don't but rarely coincide. I've had loads that were hummers. I mean bona-fide fly killers. But shoot them through a crony, es and SD are miles apart. Then, you get a great load, that yields low es, and SD, and it looks like you shot it with a...

Just a note, I was just thinking that maybe I am a little on the fast side, and maybe might consider IMR 4350, and IMR 4831. Ive also got RL19. Got my gears thinking now! Higher load densities, smoother pressure curve.
