This is only 1 of 4 projects going to him. 1) Ruger No.1 with custom Octagonal bbl in 32/40 being re-bored and chambered in .375 Ruger, as well s having his fiberglass stocks installed.2) Ruger No.1 V with Heavy stainless bbl in .223 re-bored and re-chambered in .357 Maximum, as well as being...
I am building the rifle for a specific purpose. To hunt Midwest whitetail's. the 165gr @ 5477 powder, should send it in the 26-2700 fps range. That should be sufficient for the application. I plan to top the rifle with a Malcom 6X scope. for no other reason than to show how things are done "Old...
I am planning Just that. 29GR start, should be able to work up to 33.5 GR and should give me 2,700FPS+ range Vel's
OBTW the shop doing the work is: http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com/
I plan on it! OBTW.. you have been VERY Helpful! (unusual for a chat forum) It is a relief to chat with someone who knows what they are talking about, and has a rational, well thought out, objective suggestion.
I saw link on loaddata.com before, thank you. I was thinking, start at lowest 170 gr. load and work up, and note pressure signs. I got this from cutting edge on the 175 gr. : "
Powder type Filling/Loading Ratio Charge Vel. Prop.Burnt P max P muzz

Interesting, so a lighter bullet using same powder, being harder, can have slower velocities? that is an eye opener. SO..... starting with 170 gr start load with a different bullet, velocities for a 165 GR can produce better results?
That would be really helpful.
In doing research I am on www.xxl-reloading.com .
There are TWO STARTING loads that I am looking at, one for a 170 Gr. and a 175 GR. non - lead bullet. (links below)

I am having a Hi-wall winder musket re-bored from 32/20 to .375 Winchester. I want to use the 165 GR Shock Hammer. I am on site: https://www.xxl-reloading.com/ shows nice loads for 175 gr Proj. using 5744. BUT there is a load for 170 Gr Proj (trying to get closer to bullet weight) same powder...
