Not precisely sure since it's a European gun (and I've had the gun 6 or 7 years and don't precisely remember anymore), but about 22.5" and a 14 twist, whatever the metric near-equivalents are. I like that rifle a lot, but the one thing I'd change is to a 12 twist. I know you can get...

Based on what Steve says, I'd guess the difference between TTSX and Shock Hammer here is the lighter engraving and lower pressure with Hammer. I gave up on extruded powders and 9.3x62. Unless you use a drop tube (I don't), you're just always going to run out of case capacity. I tried Varget...

9.3x62 258 gr Shock Hammer 2000MR CCI LR COAL 3.30" - I have room to play with this. Measured OAL with Hornady tool and the old-fashioned way with a wooden dowel, both showed 3.38" Norma twice fired brass and annealed. Case H2O capacity avg 73.6 gr MagnetoSpeed 58.0 gr - 2382 58.5 gr - 2375 59...

Just bought some 258 gr SH for the 9.3 Will try 2000MR first, it has worked great with all the 286 gr pills I've shot Varget as a fall back

Hammer Hunter 180 gr for 308 Win

I know what happened - the page I had linked to showed the minimum twist to stabilize the bullet - that's what it calculates. Inputs are on the left, output is the calculated twist rate.

For me it shows green and 1.496.

Also meant to add this, and maybe it'll help clarify my thinking on heavy-for-caliber. While I enjoy punching holes in paper or ringing steel from 1000 yards, if I screw up on windage, no harm done. For me, there's just too much that can go wrong when trying to put a hole in an animal past 400...

Hammer Hunter 180 gr for 308 Win

According to http://kwk.us/twist.html, 10 twist is sufficient. Based on the explanation on the bottom of the page, it looks like they use Greenhill equation, or a variant of it.

Thanks Steve. You and I corresponded some months back about this for my 404J. I'm tempted by the 307 gr, but I have to imagine the recoil of a 307 gr bullet shoved out at 2600+ fps is just eye-watering.

GRT didn't have the profile for the 180 HH, so I had to create that profile myself. The only thing I'm not clear on is the boat tail numbers - length/depth, diameter A, and diameter B. IDK if you have GRT, but my construction/material value is H2H1B-2D1N1. Playing around with the config for...

Hammer Hunter 180 gr for 308 Win

No offense taken. All else being relatively equal, sectional density trumps all when it comes to penetration. Yes, I'm aware that Hammer is a novel design, and that theory may go out the window with them, but it has worked for me for 40+ years. I shoot heavy-for-caliber in everything except...

;) Their data isn't 100% reliable with anything, I've found. It consistently over-estimates pressure velocity. Armed with that, one might be inclined to ignore the load data developed. It had the opposite effect on me: you never know which load it's actually going to accurately predict. I...

Gordon's Reloading Tool Planning on a 20 shot ladder in 0.2 gr increments. I am nothing if not cautious. If I hit a node at 2650 or 2675, I'm done. When I find a group that works, I never go any further. The performance gain of even another 100 fps even assuming small ES and SD just isn't...

Using Hornady COAL gauge, I'm getting exactly 3", measured 3x. Load data from Hammer shows COAL of 2.88" for this load, so a jump of 0.12" ? Does that sound right, or should I shorten to 2.8"? I'm planning on using Win748 (CFE223 if I can't get what I want out of Win748), hoping for good...

95%? 98% 2000MR works really well for 286 gr bullets in my 9.3x62, not so much for 250s. In fact, it really wasn't very good at all for the 250 gr NABs.

That's got me thinking 2000MR might be a good candidate, then. Just a little slower than RL15 and a little faster than Big Game.
