So I started some load testing on 7mm SAUM with 136gr shock hammers this week
I’m using
136 SH
ADG virgin brass
Bighorn origin action with 22” barrel
Reloader 19
Fed 215 primers

With 64gr of powder I got an average of 3315fps measured by the labradar, and a 3/4” group with two shots practically touching.
The third shot was slightly off but I don’t wonder if that’s me, then the wind picked up where I couldn’t do much more. Hoping to get back out this week sometime

I was able to get out this evening and get some more loads shot and here’s my data
Oal 2.645
63.5gr r19 velocity was 3278 fps 3302, 3297, 0FDE652A-5D8A-4BC4-BF7C-FA9B64FDCE92.jpeg

64gr r19 velocity was 3350 3340 3337, faster than the other day but a more reliable group BCDCB284-D3C3-4FE7-B90A-84656B605D5D.jpeg

64.3 gr r19 velocity 3400, 3383, 3360
Not a bad grouping but velocity was all over the place comparatively

Here’s my ramblings on why I chose what I did. I gathered load data from Barnes 140gr and Reloader 19 had excellent velocity and I just happened to have a pound sitting on my shelf for the past few years. Where I’m at we have aoudad and elk on the ranch and the 7mm rem mag with a 140gr accubond has folded so many of those beasts so I wanted something similar. Turns out with my load right now I’m beating the 7mm rem mag nosler accubond factory loading by 50fps and with 2 inches less of barrel.
I’ve never had the chance to shoot an animal with a hammer hunter or a shock hammer but I figured the quicker expansion of the shock hammer would be nice. I’m trying to decide what I should tweak next, if anything. I wasn’t initially excited for the 7saum because I bought the action and had a free barrel, after this load test I’m way way more excited.
