I’d deck him in the street , well I’d wait until he was on the grass lol

I’ve got no idea on how to stop them doing that without putting a tree guard around it but they still seem to get through most of them apart from full on weld mesh cages

My first option above is better imo but your regulations sux

Looks like the neighborhood buck is in the rut and marking his territory with rubs. We live in a rural area and I have a row of new trees the bucks have pretty much destroyed. Best to put a wire cage around any new trees, but that one is probably won't make it.

Either wire cages, or get some plastic drain field pipe. Skill saw cut down length on one side. Then open it up and put it around tree trunk. It's what I do to discourage beavers here along my creek bank.

I own a landscape company and a few years ago we had a bull elk snap a recently installed 3" caliper tree right in half during the rut.
He and his herd tore up the whole hillside and caused some serious damage.

All these ring and security cameras reveal how many animals have gone urban.

We haven't had one in our yard yet, but bears and cougar aren't uncommon in the area.

There's even a picture of a wolf about a half mile from the front door.
