posting a photo?

I'm old too, but here's my take - and there's probably easier/better ways?
I'm not much of a "geek".
Start your post.
When ready to put your photo in,
Hit the "add attachment" at the lower left of your post.
Go to your saved image (on mine it's in my gallery).
Click on your photo ( checkmark should appear)
Click on "done" or "add"
It should take you back to your post.
It will ask you if you want "thumbnail" or full image. Click full image,
Then click "post".
Hope that works for you. Others feel free to chime in/correct me.

gl's description is great if you want to add a photo on a post.
If you are looking to add a photo by your name (avatar) you need to do that through your account.
Click on your name in the top bar, which takes you to your account.
Click on account details and then pick a picture for your avatar.
