Share Your Hammer Loads

The "5 inch vertical string at 200 yds" was the entire pressure ladder. My final load was 59.3 gr of N560 at ~3150 fps from a 20" 1-7 barrel. It is sub MOA. COAL 2.830" (0.050 from lands). Pressure started around 3250 fps, and the groups began to open up.
Thank you for the detailed reply. This helps a lot!

Caliber --------- .405 Win.
Bullet _----------- 250 grain Shock Hammer
Powder_--------- Norma 201. 57.7 grains
Primer ------------- CCI. 200
Brass---------------- Hornady
Barrel length ---- 28 Inches

Notes------------- could go faster, but I'm trying to mitigate recoil. Believe 2500 + is doable.

The COAL and CBTO measurements are unique to this rifle which can affect pressure. This load was deemed safe in my rifle, use standard safe reloading practices to work up a safe load in your rifle.

This load is for experience reloader. Mono bullets do not exhibit same load characteristics as a cup and core bullets. ALWAYS START LOW IN THE LOAD DATA WITH ANY MONO BULLET!

What caliber is that, I really don't know.

Primers flat, but bolt lift fine, brass fine, but I believe I am on the edge. All 3 shots into 5/8” with 3 powder charges.

Going to try 88 grains RL19 tomorrow, thinking of trying MagPro and maybe RL22, looking at lower volume powders so we are able to add till pressure. Both of these powders had the primers flat but no shiny spots on brass or flowing. Opinions/ advice or direction. Rifle has less than 30 rounds thru it. Going to be a hammer for a Brownie in a month and a half. Was hoping Steve would come out with a 225 HHT soon so I could use it on a bear on Kodiak, would even shoot the carcass a few different ways for “ FARLEG “ experimentation. 👍🤝😳😳😳😂😂😉 the 267 HHT is too long for the magazine on this rifle.

I have continued to tweak these 338-06AI loads....I'm done now! I don't think my 338WM is going to make it out of the safe again. These two loads are both very consistent and group well below 1 inch in my rifle. The 186gr SH load is a Max load in my rifle. I pushed the 213gr HH to 2960 but my group size suffered. The 213gr load averaged 2899.56fps over 12 shots, I rounded up to 2900. 😛

Settled on 100gr of mag pro. Average speed of 3551 over 15 shots with a SD of 9FPS. Best groups were the same load. Any faster and the groups open up significantly. At 3550 I am shooting .5 moa at 100 yards.

I tried several other powders but these were the best tested.

New here. Been through all 26 pages and don’t see what I’m looking for.

Anyone got any info, suggestions, thoughts on a starting point:

I have a 280AI, 25” barrel with 1-10” twist (Mix up between me and gunsmith- long story).
Would be used for deer, antelope and elk.

PM would be fine. Thanks in advance.

Cowboy

Your cartridge is too popular here for nobody to not show up, it might take a minute.

You would get a lot more exposure if you would introduce yourself in the new members section and if you address the type of hunting you do and how far you'll be shooting, it would be a huge help.

Welcome from Central Florida and speed kills.

Tons of loads for that in the load info thread

120 hammer hunter with a either IMR 4350 or H4350 might be a good place to start. I have used 120’s with IMR 4350 and varget in a 280 Remington. H4350 is on my list to try.

Save the pdf and search it. These are just the absolute hammers but a starting point. Proceed with caution. Absolute hammers are addictive. I love them. Shot an antelope last year at 409yds with a 140gr Absolute hammer out of a 7mm STW. That load is going 3550FPS. It is a 1-9" twist. The 1-10" twist is going to limit you on the Absolute bullets to the 119 and the 130.
