Sabots left me discombobulated

I’ve always wanted to use that word somewhere…

Shot 90 grains on Blackhorn under a Harvester sabot with 300 gr cast bullet and got this. Any ideas what’s going on?

I have. When bullet is too heavy for the sabot base, the bullet drives back into base causing the base to double over on exit of barrel. I saw it with 12ga sabot with 450 gr cup core. That sabot was removed from market. I bet this sabot is fine with 250gr bullet.

That makes sense. I’ve shot 250s in the past. Bet I go back to them. I emailed Harvester and hope to hear from them soon.

The base is not strong enough to support the heavier bullet. I have mitigated some by placing a felt wad under bullet. Might help.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered a package of these. Had no idea about them or that they’re made 3 hours away from me.

The good folks at Harvester have no idea why my sabots are acting like they are. BUT, they are sending me a sample of their magnum sabots and bullets to try.

Good business right there.

50 yards, 3” circle
250 grain Nosler HPs
90 grains Blackhorn 209
