I have a .257 with 1:7t, will that cause any instability in the lower weight bullets?

Awesome!
I’ve shot a 1-14 TR bullet out of a 1-6.5 TR barrel they are not unstable. I’m guessing it may pitch and yaw when it reaches its maximum ballistic range but for my hunting ranges it will be fun to see what type of damage this does to predators and varmints.

Haha! @Farleg and I had lengthy discussion last night on the effect of higher RPM with high velocity on petal disbursement along with petal deformation relative to how the petals disburse on impact. The additional thought was the increased temperature of the bullet with higher rpm and its effect added to the terminal performance equation.
Then I opened another bottle of wine to stop my head hurting going to bed!

Overspin I doubt will be a issue , I’ve got to nearly 500k rpm & no issues
Slippage on the few tests I done on that & no issues
Muddy be a good thread to start on rpm heat terminal etc but my only advice is go get a few more bottles of wine

my 7twist 257 is still at my gunsmiths, im getting it throated long to shoot the heavies. But I would be interested in learning how yours shoots the lightweights, please share.

@Sprint1006 shoots a 338/175hh in his 8.6 3 twist with extremely good terminal performance. I can’t wait to see more results from this combo. Maybe he can elaborate on accuracy as well. He likely has on the past, I just don’t recall for sure.

It’s been a year or so ago but Bryan Litz posted a slow motion bullet exiting a barrel. It was a copper mono in a 1 twist.
On another note, beware that others on this forum have purchased excessively fast twist and been disappointed in their velocity achieved. Although I’m not sure if it was the fast twist or a bullet/barrel fit issue that caused lower than expected velocities. I have a 26” 308 12 twist barrel that will not achieve expected velocities with the 124hh or 137hh. But it really likes the 154hht.

IMO if you stay with 1 twist of the recommendation for the bullet, you will be fine.
