Help with build caliber.

Inheriting a Stevens 110E Series K in 30-06, I have a 30-06 that is much nicer already, this stock is shot and the barrel is iffy at best. What caliber for 195 grain speedster hunting bullet? Leaning towards a 7SST build.

The SSTs are wonderfully accurate cartridges and very efficient. Rich has developed some great stuff. They do require a magnum boltface, however. Not the standard 308 boltface.

The SST is based upon a shortened SAUM parent cartridge case.

Also keep in mind it’s likely a small shank, there is some debate over the ultra mag/wsm diameter and larger being built on the small shank barrel nut setup. There were some factory wsm built on the small shank but that stopped fairly quick and now they keep it to the belted mag diameter so far as I’m aware, not sure if they do the prc’s but I would imagine so.

It's a Savage bolt, you can change the bolt head.

A 7 PRC would be better choice, unless you really like tuning your rifle. 28 Nosler can be like tuning a 15 cylinder race car with 11 carbs.
